Big Girl Truth Within: 5 reasons to consider a Lifestyle Change

Feeling sexy vs. being healthy

"Take me to the ER," I whispered to my husband. "There is a piercing pain in my chest with pressure spreading across the wings of my shoulder blades through the front of my bra line." Oh my God, I am dying. I haven't felt this pain before.  I am breaking down like a worn pair of shoes that need the shoe repairman to fix. "I can't walk."

"I am coming mama this is the Big One," like Fred Sanford said to his wife Elizabeth on the T.V. show "Sanford & Son."  I awoke last night to this pain that caught my attention on purpose. Am I dying? Am I selfish for not taking better care of myself? Will I live to see my grandchildren have children? Will I need a heart transplant?Shit, will I even be a canidate for one? All these thoughts ran through my head while my husband drove me to the hospital at 1:23 A.M. on March 4, 2013.

Scared about what the future held on this fateful night, I prayed and thanked God for all that He had done and been in my life. A few seconds later Dr. Young enter room 9 in the ER, my eyes stood at attention as he shut the door behind him. "Your heart is perfect and all of your blood work is great." I let out a sigh of relief. But my chest was still hurting.

GERD. That was my diagnosis. Some causes were increased body weight which puts pressure on the stomach, making acid rise and late evening meals which increase acid production. I am grateful that I did not leave their in a body bag or with a stiched chest due to open heart surgery. I have reflected on reasons to change my big girl lifestyle habits and hope they help you too.

5 reasons to consider a Lifestyle Change

  • Increase longevity- Did you know that eating healthier could add years on your life. Would you eat better if you knew you could be around to see your children, grandchildren and even your great grandchildren?
  • Improve the quality of your life- No matter what size you are, Life is an incredible experience, but think about the other things you can do when being a healthier person in the life of your own and with your family.
  • Improved sex life-Losing weight can increase your sexual appetite and desire. A thinner physique allows for a wider range of sexual positions.
  • Increased motivation-grant it you may be full of confidence; however, there is always room for improvement. Your health and self-esteem will grow and possibly become inspiration for another big girl who is seeking a lifestyle change.
  •  Yo-Yo Dieter- Fit into your closet of clothes with a diverstity of sizes. Losing 20 pounds will allow you to fit into clothes you have been desiring to wear after each year you have made a New Year Resolution. Stop the madness!

My husband graced my eyes with his compassion for me. A renewed spirit of love adorned the early morning dew and I knew that change, even in the slightest act must accompany this journey. Not just for me, but for my big girl sistahs or sisters (which ever you perfer) who seek change.

Like me, some of my big girl sistahs/sisters seek a lifestyle change to accomplish a weightloss goal. Big girls, it is not about the weightlossmore than it is about being heathly.
